Topic
Axions and Axion-like particles (ALPs) are possible components of the Dark Matter
playing a role in different astrophysical processes regarding many classes of
celestial objects.
The International Axion Observatory (IAXO) is a new generation
axion helioscope, proposed by an international collaboration, aiming at the
detection of axions and ALPs emitted from the solar core.
This coelostat telescope continuously pointing at the solar centre will be based on
a set of X-ray grazing incidence mirror telescopes placed behind a set of 8 large
and powerful parallel magnets that should convert axions or ALPs in X-rays.
In the focal plane of the telescopes, spectroscopic low background detectors are placed to
measure the X-ray flux expected from the solar axions or ALPs converted in the
magnets.
The workshop is intended to stimulate the large italian community of the theoretical
physicists, particle physicists, astrophysicists, cosmologists, etc, in particular
from INFN, INAF, ASI and the universities interested to contribute to the IAXO
proposal.
