This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of SCO X-1, the first extrasolar X-ray source, together with the first measure of the X-ray background by Giacconi, Gursky, Paolini, and Rossi. To mark this occasion, the Astronomical Observatory of Brera and the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica of INAF are organizing the conference

"X-ray Astronomy: towards the next 50 years!"

The conference will be held in Milan, where Riccardo Giacconi got his first degree in Physics, at the Museum of Science and Technology from Oct 1st to Oct 5th, 2012.

The meeting aims at providing an overall review of today’s X-ray astronomy, focusing on the most challenging open problems and stimulating future perspectives.
