Attention: Guido Chincarini, Director

We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in High Energy Astrophysics at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB), starting early 2000. The fellowship is funded by the Italian Ministry of Research as part of a national project, in collaboration with other Italian institutions. The duration of the fellowship is of one year (renewable for another one).
The position is intended to exploit the scientific potential of the Brera Multi-scale Wavelet (BMW) catalog of ROSAT HRI sources.

Applicants should have research interests and experience high energy astrophysics.
It would be desirable to have experties in the following areas:
  - analysis of X-ray data
  - databases and managment of large datasets
  - detection algorithms

The succesful applicant will join the high energy group at OAB.
She/He will be expected both to pursue a vigorous independent research program in the aforementioned
fields - and collaborate with the local staff on on-going and new projects.
Interaction with researchers from other partners in the collaboration on the above topics will also be encouraged.
The gross salary is Lit 30-40 million per year depending on the experience of the successful candidate.

The OAB houses one of the most active high energy groups in Italy, directly involved in the new NASA MIDEX satellite called SWIFT, dedicated to gamma-ray bursts, as well as in other missions such as PANORAM-X, JET-X and Constellation-X. Together with this, OAB host a very active group working on innovative detection algorithms for X-ray astronomy, based on the wavelet transform, which made possible the creation of the BMW ROSAT HRI source catalog.

Interested individuals should send a Curriculum Vitae, list of publications (copy of the PhD thesis) and a statement of research interests to the above address. They should also arrange to have up to three letters of reference sent directly to the same address (e-mail letters will be accepted at the e-mail addresses given below).
Applications mailed before XX XX 2000 will be given full consideration.
