Schiaparelli has been one of the most important
astronomers of the eighteen hundreds: his scientific interests and
contributions go well beyond Mars, for which he is famous,
and include even studies on history of Astronomy and ancient languages.
For most of his scientific life he was
the director of the Brera Astronomical Observatory.
This meeting is part of a larger program to commemorate this distinguished figure and intends to celebrate his life and scientific achievements, with special emphasis on current results and modern science deriving from his pioneering work.
