CORA (Compact Objects & Relativistic Astrophysics) is a research group at INAF OAB mainly aimed at studying compact objects (black holes, neutron stars), their relativistic jets, their close environment, and their cosmological evolution and distribution on large scale in the Universe.
Currently, we are continuing the study of a specific class of jetted active galactic nuclei (AGN), named Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies.
The latest efforts were dedicated to find new objects of this class and to understand the discovery space that will be available with the beginning of the operations of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA).

The group members are also involved in other research topics:

  • X-ray binaries/Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients (Patrizia Romano), a peculiar class of Galactic binaries (an accreting neutron star coupled with a supergiant young star) characterised by strong and fast outbursts.
  • Multi-wavelength studies of gamma-ray loud blazars with AGILE/GRID and Fermi/LAT (Stefano Vercellone)
  • Service activities within large collaborations (Patrizia Romano, Stefano Vercellone):
    • Patrizia Romano, former coordinator of the CTA extragalactic working group; ALTO/COMET Multi-wavelength Coordinator. Swift/XRT Team Member.
    • Stefano Vercellone, former CTA Science Coordinator; INAF coordinator Science work package for CTA; ASTRI Mini-Array science coordinator; ALTO/COMET Science Coordinator.
