I will present a review of the recent progress on the diffuse X-ray emission from the Galactic centre region. In particular, I will report the discovery of the Galactic center Chimneys, the radiative manifestation of the outflow from the Milky Way centre, and I will relate it with star formation and past AGN-like activity of Sgr A*.
