This seminar will provide an introduction to the most important radiation mechanisms acting in relativistic jets, such as those in active galactic nuclei and gamma-ray bursts: Synchrotron radiation and Compton scattering. In addition to spectral signatures and associated particle cooling, particular emphasis will be placed on the polarization of synchrotron and Compton emission.
