I will review the detection of X-ray galaxy groups in deep surveys, which reach both low masses 12.5dex at low redshifts and enable robust identification of virialized halos at redshifts reaching 2.5. After presenting the calibration and statistical properties of the sample, I will discuss the role of X-ray galaxy groups in coevolution of galaxies and black holes.
