The number of Geiger-mode Avalanche PhotoDiod (G-APD) projects within the Cherenkov telescope community increased dramatically within the last few years. It was in late 2011 when the first G-APD Cherenkov telescope (FACT) saw its first light. FACT built a state-of-the-art integrated G-APD camera and put it on a refurbished HEGRA telescope mount. In this way it was possible to quickly build a 5m, 4.5°FoV Cherenkov telescope that could prove what G-APDSs are capable of. In this talk I will give an overview of the project, its construction history and what we learned during operations in the last 3 years.
