The Seminar will focus on the technical aspects regarding the manufacturing of the optics for E- ELT, the 40 m Telescope that ESO plan to build and install in 2024 in Cerro Armazones. In particular will be presented: - A presentation of Schott industry and its contribution to E-ELT - The production of the M1 segments for E-ELT (materials, different optical technologies that can be used) - Industrial European capability today and what it is necessary to build for E-ELT mirror production (rate of production). - What are in Europe the companies that are qualified for the job, either for mirror polishing and ion beam figuring correction. - Who is qualified for the manufacturing of the ion beam figuring machines - The metrology of the M1 segments: discussion about the design of a high precision profilometer
