By piercing the universe along line-of-sights to distant quasars we can get precious information on: cosmological parameters, fundamental properties on the nature of the dark matter, the interplay between galaxy and their surrounding intergalactic medium. I will review the main results obtained in the last few years by high-resolution and low-resolution quasar spectra and present perspectives for future discoveries.
