Weak Lensing by large scale structure has recently emerged as a powerful probe of dark energy and dark matter in the universe. After describing the physical principles of weak lensing, I will review the current observational status of this fast evolving field. I will then describe future projects aimed at weak lensing measurements with ever increasing accuracy. In particular, I will describe the Euclid mission under study within ESA's Cosmic Vision programme.
