Combining both high sensitivity and high resolution into one telescope system is the foundation of NASA.s Generation-X mission (scheduled for 2020 . 2030). The current proposed method to achieve this is through active control, where the X-ray optics are manipulated to the optimum surface form through piezoelectric actuators. Research will be presented regarding the fabrication and testing of an active X-ray prototype intended for such a mission. The prototype is a segment from an ellipsoid, where the optical component is fabricated following a nickel electroforming method and the active nature is supplied through the addition of curved piezoelectric actuators. Finite element analysis and experimental results will be discussed with respect to the fabrication of the prototype, followed by a brief overview of the initial results obtained from tests within an X-ray environment in December 2008
