The GRB supernova 2006aj is the second nearest GRB supernova discovered after SN 1998bw nearly eight years ago. I report about our comprehensive imaging observing campaign of this event at the ESO-VLT performed on behalf of the GRACE collaboration. I start with an overview of the field from the observational point of view, and then I discuss the properties of this supernova in the context of the present world sample of known GRB supernovae.
