The VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (VVDS), currently underway, is sheding light on the evolution of the dark matter-galaxy connection from the measurement of more than 100000 spectra of faint objects. I'll describe the shape and general features of the luminous structures uncovered by the VVDS in the high- redshift universe comparing their properties with those of local, present day structures. I will present the first-epoch VVDS measurements of the redshift-, density-,and scale-dependent biasing function b(z, D, R) between galaxy and matter overdensities from galaxies distributed in a deep cone 0.4<z<1.5 covering 0.4 x 0.4 deg. Finally, I will show how this measurement allows us to test the consistency and coherence of the gravitational instability paradigm at intermediate cosmic epochs (z ~ 1).
