Flows of hot plasma connecting the Milky Way center to the corona, halo and beyond

Places

The Hot Milk project will be carried out within the Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB) which is part of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) as well as at the Max Planck Institut für Extraterrestrische Physik (MPE).

Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB)
The observatory is located in Merate a small town north of Milano, close to the Alps. To reach the institute, it is possible to commute from Milano or to live in one of the wonderful places of the region.
My family and I decided to live in Pescarenico (a neighborhood of Lecco) a small fisherman village on the shore of the Como lake. My flat is actually just behind the first row of houses. Pescarenico is about 25 minutes from work, about 20 minutes from the ski slopes and located directly on the wonderful Como lake (where several Hollywood stars decided to buy a house after shooting movies in the surroundings). The region offers a large range of mountain and water sport activities, remaining at less than 1 hour away from the city center of Milano.

Max Planck Institut für Extraterrestrische Physik (MPE)
MPE is located in Garching, a small town north of Munich. Garching is within the Munich metro network. The journey from Garching to Munich downtown takes only about 25 minutes. Garching hosts one of the largest concentrations of astronomers in Europe.
